3D Scanning
Advanced CBCT Imaging and Orthodontics
Access to 3D scanning technology has revolutionized dentistry and allowed orthodontists to create detailed treatment plans, detect hidden oral health issues, and achieve predictable results. At Full Smile Orthodontics, we use state-of-the-art 3D scanning technology to prepare for orthodontic treatment and provide better overall experiences for our patients.
Why Do Orthodontists Take 3D Scans?
Three-dimensional images are extremely valuable to patients and providers. These detailed images allow Dr. Astuto to look at your teeth, jaws, soft tissues, and nerve paths, then design a treatment plan that corrects orthodontic issues while improving your oral health. As a result, we achieve predictable outcomes and you can feel more confident about your care by knowing we take every aspect of your oral health into consideration.
Benefits of 3D Scans
There are many benefits to using 3D imaging technology, such as:
- Reduces the risk of complications
- Non-invasive
- Safe and accurate
- Only takes seconds to complete
- Images are interactive and shareable with other members of your care team
The 3D Scanning Process
We will likely take 3D scans at the consultation appointment. To prepare for the scan, a member of our team will position you in front of the scanner. The machine will rotate 360 degrees around your head and after just a few seconds, your scan is complete. We will use these images to create your personalized care plan and walk you through every detail of your treatment. Dr. Astuto can instantly view these scans and share them with other members of your care team, which makes the collaboration process highly efficient.
Intraoral Scanners and Digital Impressions
3D intraoral scanners are hand-held devices that work similarly to larger 3D scanning machines, except they fit in the palm of your hand. Instead of taking a full 3D scan of your head and face, we can take intraoral scans of your teeth as needed using 3D scanning wands. Handheld 3D scanners also eliminate the need for traditional putty molds. These types of scans are useful when taking digital impressions for Invisalign® treatment, braces, and when creating custom-fitted oral appliances.
